Bob's career over the last decade casts him as the poster boy for the Americana sideman, albeit one that crosses borders into Scandinavia, Australia, Canada and Europe.

He started by touring and recording with Souled American in 1988 during their birth and the release of their debut record Fe. Bob hooked up with Freakwater in 1994 for a couple of years of domestic and European club touring and recorded their Old Paint record with them.

He parted amicably from Freakwater in 1996 to join Wilco in support of their Being There tours. In addition to playing on that record and doing a lot of television (Letterman, Conan, VH-1, HBO, Much Music) Bob spent 2 years touring with Wilco in the States and in Europe. Before parting ways in 1998 Bob recorded on the Grammy-nominated Mermaid Avenue collaboration with Wilco, Billy Bragg and Woody Guthrie.

In 1998 Bob released his self-titled debut record and toured small clubs in the States, Canada and Norway to support it. He also spent the summer touring with Billy Bragg supporting the Mermaid Avenue record. His studio duties included a reunion with Freakwater (Springtime) and recording with Canadian stadium rockers the Tragically Hip (Phantom Power) and indie darlings Oh Susanna (Johnstown) and Neko Case (Furnace Room Lullaby).

In addition to touring domestically in 1999 Bob traveled to Norway to produce country rocker's Bonkers (Opp). While there, he recorded extensively with Scandinavian rockers Madrugada on their award winning Industrial Silence. Stateside he recorded with Fat Possum artists the Neckbones (The lights are getting dim) and Super Chikan (What You See) as well as with Christian-rockers Jars of Clay on their Grammy-winning If I Left the Zoo. In late '99 he joined Blue Rodeo and moved to Canada.

2000 found Bob and Blue Rodeo touring extensively (150 shows) in Canada, the States and Australia to support their latest release The Days In Between. Bob also did a solo tour of Norway and kept busy recording with Wilco's John Stirratt (The Autumn Defense), the Sadies (Tremendous Efforts), Old Reliable (The Gradual Moment), the Northern Pikes (Truest Inspiration) and several other indie artists.
